Father’s Day is such a great time to celebrate the great dads in our life, and we’re happy to share unique gift ideas for Dads who make time count plus an incredible giveaway in proud partnership with JORD Wood Watches!
Andrew is one devoted Daddy. He’s also a time-pressed businessman with a demanding sales career in the financial sector, with after-hours client engagements and travel. Despite his intense schedule, he remains a commited family man. He doesn’t take time for granted. He’s aware that right now he’s the centre of our kids’ world, but that won’t last forever. Our oldest is just 4 years shy of teenagehood – a stage where peers become their focus over time with their parents. He knows time is fleeting and wants to make the time he has with the kids matter, and a parenting priority.
Here are 3 ways he makes family time count:
1) He involves them in home maintenance
With fond memories of helping his own father around the house growing up, he involves the kids in all the things required to upkeep our home. Snow shovelling, raking leaves, cleaning the pool, gardening, building with tools are all activities he makes them a part of. It takes twice as long to finish, but he knows he’s instilling life skills in them that will lead to their independence and self sufficiency. And while HE knows it’s work, it doesn’t phase them, as they absolutely love being included and feeling useful. Time well spent.
2) He participates in the things they enjoy doing
For our oldest sons, Andrew has been a volunteer coach on their hockey teams since their first year of league play. Okay, so as a hockey-fanatic himself, this one is quite enjoyable for him also, but the time commitment is huge, and there are lots of behind the scenes tasks to helping the team schedule run smoothly.
For our daughter, it means being “Prince Andrew” and twirling about to her Princess tunes, or parading in a tiara while singing the opening song to “Sofia the First” on Disney Junior. Or my favourite, lending his paws so she can practice her nail polishing skills.
He’s definitely the fun parent, and they soak up his enthusiasm. I am grateful for this time he devotes to them, and the love and support he shows as a result.
3) He’s instilled a bedtime bonding ritual
At the end of a full day of parenting, there are times after bath time I could throw in the towel (literally) and forego books for the sake of having more quiet adult time to myself. Not Andrew. Regardless of the work that awaits him, he’s always put it aside to bond with the kids by way of books. He never misses a bedtime story and makes sure they keep up with their school reading logs. This routine has had amazing benefits to their literacy levels and has become such a special time of the day for them to bond. As an aside, here’s a neat fact – a study out of Harvard University found that kids benefit more when Dad reads. Carry on, Daddy!
In the spirit of making time count, and also thinking of a special gift for devoted Dads alike, we have partnered with Jord Wood Watches. We love their philosophy that the value of a watch is not in being able to tell how much time has passed, but in being aware of the need to make that time count. Moments are bigger than minutes and your watch should tell more than time.
The artists behind these brilliant designs are dedicated to creating timepieces that are modelled after a modern lifestyle. These pieces are made for people who don’t just have somewhere to be, they have somewhere to go, and that Andrew does!
Andrew selected the Reece timepiece in Walnut and Navy made of hartwood in Walnut sourced from Eastern Europe. It features a classic rectangular profile with natural wood surrounding a muted metallic face, covered with sapphire glass – one of the most durable, scratch resistant materials on earth.
Why Andrew loves this timepiece
Andrew values the uniqueness of this watch. He’s never seen nor wore a watch like this, and likes that he won’t be wearing something everyone else has. He appreciates the polished, simple look of this timepiece, but knows it’s far from typical in style. The best thing, he says, is this watch is versatile – it can be worn with outfits ranging from casual to corporate in style – very practical for the man who quickly switches from suits to hockey coaching gear on most .
So, if you’re still searching for a special, unique gift for the modern Dad in your life, seriously, this is it. But in case you need other gift ideas, check out our Gifts for Dads Pinterest board, curated with many of Andrew’s favourite things.
Here’s some other features we think you’ll love about this timepiece as much as we do:
- JORD Wood Watches now offers customization with your personal engraved message on the black plate of the timepiece. Add your child’s favourite personal quote. Our kids would pick “Best Daddy Ever!” I would tend to agree 🙂
- The watch is packaged in a gorgeous cedar box. No need to search for fancy giftwrap. This packaging makes a big impression all on it’s own. For an added wow-factor, the watch box can also be engraved with anything you want, including a special note, custom logo/monogram or a replica of your handwritten message.
- You can have the watch sized prior to shipping so it arrives ready-to-wear!
- They also have a line for Women! And they are gorgeous! My current faves are the FRANKIE 35 Series in Zebrawood & Champagne + the Koa & Rose Gold in the CORA series.
We were thrilled and honored to partner with such a quality brand as JORD Wood Watches. To share our enjoyment, we’re so excited to give you the chance to win this Reece timepiece for the special Dad in your life this Father’s Day. Giveaway on the blog coming Friday, June 9th! Stay tuned!
