We hope you enjoy this True North Holiday Gift Guide as much as we do. As a Canadian family, we are ‘true North, strong and free’, so as the very proud Canucks we are, this may be one of our favourite guides to curate. This round up includes clothing, home accents, jewellery and holiday décor reflective of what evokes images and emotions of the Great North to us – think cozy cabins, rustic + Northern wilderness. Some of our very favourite Canadian-born shops are included in this round up, including GONGSHOW, Hudson’s Bay and a new find, Province of Canada. Getting our new set of CANADA mittens (shown below) from Nana each year has become a Christmas tradition in our family. We also love that proceeds from the Red Mitten program go toward supporting our Canadian athletes. Wearing a set of family holiday PJ’s is another fun holiday tradition. This year our selection will be a salute to the True North!
The concept of “true north” really resonates with me this year. First, I am grateful for the love and devotion of a true life partner, Andrew, my ‘North Star’, if you will, who is incredibly supportive and keeps me on course to meeting my full potential. I know, a little too mushy, but a good love deserves to be celebrated 🙂
Second, finding your “true north” is something we all desire. That internal guide that keeps us moving in the right direction. In Bill George’s book, Discover Your True North, he says true north, “it’s the internal compass that guides you successfully through life. It is your orienting point – your fixed point in a spinning world – that helps you stay on track…It’s based on what is most important to you, your most cherished values, your passions and motivations and the sources of satisfaction in your life.” Starting this blog was a culmination of acknowledging what is most important to me (my family) and keeping them at the heart of pursuing my passions for writing, photography, fashion and travel. I can confidently say, I’m ending the last quarter of 2016 having found my “true north”.
